NYC This Week: What I Wore & What I Bought
I walked into the Ann Taylor flagship on Fifth Avenue for the first time this week. It was an impromptu stop after a long two hour meeting. They were having a huge sale with an extra 50% off all markdowns, so of course I ended up buying a couple of tops. My main objective was to look for styles that were versatile enough to wear to work or a chic night out.
I laid eyes on a white linen strapless top, it was just the perfect timeless summer piece. I also spotted another linen icon, the halter top. Designed with a stunning stone adjustment made to go from halter to keyhole style, she instantly stood out to me. At that price, how could I not bring her home? She practically invited herself into my wardrobe. I think I only spent around $25-$30 on each. The store layout was clean and easy to navigate. I liked that everything was merchandised by category and not overly mixed together. It made the shopping experience feel simple and elevated.
The next day, I styled the white linen strapless top over my go-to black dress. The contrast created a subtle colorblock and made the dress feel fresh again. It was the perfect way to make a work outfit feel intentional while staying cool during the heat wave.
For evening, I changed into an embroidered asymmetric funnel neck dress to attend the opening night of Hope Springs Internal, a play I costume designed. It was truly a magical experience to see a show I worked on come to life. I styled six characters for the production and the photoshoot. It was such a fulfilling creative experience and confirmed that I’d love to be involved in something like that again.
For closing night, I wore a breezy and beautiful cotton sundress from Natori. It had the perfect bright vibe for a colorful show.
I placed a few online orders this week but those pieces are for an upcoming beach trip. I’ll be sharing what I’m packing in next week’s post.
